Kerala honours health workers for containing Nipah


The Kerala government on Wednesday decided to give an additional increment to about 61 government health personnel in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts taking into account their exemplary service in containing the deadly Nipah virus outbreak.

Apart from this, the government has also decided to honour sister Lini who lost her life in the course of taking care of a NIpah affected patient with instituting an award in the name of her for the best staff government nurse.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The 61 persons who were recommended for the increment includes 4 assistant professors, 19 staff nurses, 7 nursing assistants, 17 cleaning staff, 4 hospital attenders, 2 health inspectors, 4 secretary staff, 1 plumber and 3 lab technicians. Apart from this, 12 junior residents and 3 senior residents would be felicitated with a one sovereign gold medal.
