Appointment of ST in police through special drive to address lack of their representation; Vijayan


Thruvananthapuram; Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the appointment of 74 Scheduled Tribes members will in the State police through special recruitment was initiated to address the lack of representation of Scheduled Tribes in public service.

Noting that special rule was amended to expedite the process, he said that the selected belonged to the most backward sections among Scheduled Tribes – the Adiyan and Kattunayakan tribes. Fifty five men and twenty two women feature in this list of appointees.

Vijayan mentioned that a pro-active stance was undertaken in many cases and the authorities met candidates to receive application by hand.

They were exempted from the need to give bonds and other security that are part of the PSC process. They will be given nine months of training in the Police academy. After the Government came to power, 25 special recruitments have been made in Excise Department and 50 others in Forest Department.
