SDPI state leaders arrested, let off

State leaders of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) who were taken into custody in connection with Abhimanyu murder case were later let off.

SDPI state president Abdul Majeed Faisi, Vice President MK Manoj Kumar, General Secretary Roy Arakkal and district president VK Shoukath Ali were taken into custody. The Ernakulam Central police took into custody six SDPI leaders when they came out after holding a press conference at Ernakulam Press Club in the afternoon. Later in the evening, they were released.

The SDPI that had called for a hartal on Tuesday against the arrest of its leaders called off the agitation. However, they said that Tuesday will be observed as a black day.

The SDPI had held the press conference to give an explanation on the Abhimanyu murder case. They alleged that the probe was not going in the right director and said that people who are accused in other cases are being taken into custody in the Abhimanyu murder case.
