Criticising the Bihar government for the alleged rapes of minor girls in a Muzaffarpur shelter home run by an NGO, the Supreme Court said that it seemed that these activities were state sponsored and that the women are being raped “left, right and centre” in the country.
The Apex court also took suo motu cognisance of the Bihar shelter home rape cases and sought explanation from Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government and the Women and Child Development Ministry. It asked why action was not taken to stop minor girls from being raped in shelters home in Muzaffarpur.
Referring to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, the bench comprising Justices M B Lokur, Deepak Gupta and K M Joseph said that every six hours, a woman is raped in the country. India. Girls and women are getting raped left, right and centre, the bench said.
It is alleged that police personnel, politicians, administration and many others were behind the racket.
