Mullaperiyar dam level reaches 136ft; warning issued

A first stage warning has been issued with the water level in the Mullaperiyar Dam rising to 136 ft. The maximum capacity of the dam is 142 ft.

Once the water reaches the maximum capacity, Water will be released to Tamil Nadu. The spillway shutters of the dam are likely to be raised only if it makes difficult for the neighbour to drain water. The water through the spillway will flow to the Idukki dam.

Once the spillway shutters are raised, it would bring more water to Periyar, which could lead to hardships for the people residing on each sides of the river.
