Pleaded with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for burial space for kalaignar; Stalin

DMK working president MK Stalin stole the hearts of his party men at the Executive meeting in Chennai on Tuesday with an emotional rendering of how he had to plead with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for the burial space for Veteran Karunidhi in Marina Beach.

He is reported to have told the meeting that they held onto the CM’s hand and pleaded with him to give us the burial space in Marina. This was all because it was ”my leader’s last wish,” he said.

This was the first Executive Committee after Karunanidhi’s death.

An emotional Stalin is also said to have told the meeting that if Kalaignar could not be buried at Marina, then his body would have been found in the burial spot near his leader.

The AIADMK government had refused the demand for burial of Karuranidhi at Marina Beach. Soon after the DMK moved the Madras High court that directed the State Government to allott land on Marina Beach for Karunanidhi’s burial.

Sources said that all the senior leaders in the party had extended their support to Stalin.

The meeting gains significance in the wake of a rift in the party with Karunanidhi’s son M K Alagiri challenging his brother MK Stalin’s elevation as the party president. It was only on Monday that he came out against Stalin.
