The Kerala High Court has directed the state government to ensure that the contribution from public to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) reaches the victims only.
This would help in ensuring more transperancy which will encourage people to donate more, the court said while considering a Public Interest Litigation that demanded to form a special directive to handle the money that reached the CMDRF.
The Court also said that a separate account could be created to transfer the money received for this purpose. The money collected by private companies and social organizations must be audited, it said.
Meanwhile, the advocate general told the court that the money got for flood relief will not be diverted for other purposes.
