With the recent floods badly affecting the biodiversity of Kerala, chief minister
Pinarayi Vijayan has directed to conduct an assessment of biodiversity loss at grass root level.
The Kerala State Biodiversity Board has been asked to conduct the study with the support of Biodiversity Management Committees at local bodies.
In a Facebook post, he said the SBB will conduct the study in all flood hit districts with the support of Biodiversity Management Committees under local bodies. The Data collection for assessing biodiversity loss and impact on biodiversity and ecosystems will be completed within one month, he added.
Vijayan also said the findings would then be utilised to prepare a comprehensive plan for sustainable development with the help of national and international funding agencies.
