ln a major setback to former finance minister KM Mani, the vigilance special court in Thiruvananthapuram dismissed the vigilance report that absolved him in the Bar Bribery case.
The Vigilance in its report submitted in March had given a clean chit to Mani. It was alleged that Mani accepted Rs One crore as bribe to reopen 418 bars that was closed during UDF reign.
The court said that further inquiry into the case will be carried out according to the new amendment in Prevention of Corruption Act, which stipulates approval of government to investigate complaints. The court has asked the vigilance to inform their stand on the case after seeking permission from the government. The court will consider the case again on December 10.
Meanwhile, Mani said in Kottayam that the case be investigated as many times as they want. He said that he will continue with the battle for justice no matter how many times they carry out the investigation
The Vigilance department has given a clean chit to KM Mani in the case and filed the report last March. However, petitioners, including VS Achuthanandan, approached the court seeking further inquiry into the case.
Vigilance has acquitted KM Mani from the case in its two reports initially submitted in the court.
