Sitting MLA, former legislator shot dead by Maoists in Andhra


The Maoists are alleged to have shot dead Telugu Desam Party MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former TDP MLA Siveri Soma at Araku area in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.

They were shot dead at Lippitiputta village under Dambriguda mandal when both of them went to take part in a ‘grama darsini’ (village visit) programme, the police said. Kidari Sarveswara Rao is Araku (ST) MLA.

The police said that the exact number of Maoists involved in the attack and the reasons for shooting down the legislator were being ascertained.

Araku Valley is a tribal region that shares border with Odisha. The area is known as the operational base of Maoist leader Akkiraju Haragopal, alias RK.
