1407 persons arrested for violence in connection with the Sabarimala women entry issue

A total of 1407 persons were arrested for unleashing violence in connection with the Sabarimala women entry issue.

The police have registered about 260 cases so far.

The largest number of arrests were made in Ernakulam and Tripunithura. The police also made arrests in Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrissur, Kottayam and Alappuzha. The police said that more people will be arrested in the coming days.

The arrested people include those who violated the prohibitory order in Pathanamthitta, Nilakkal, Pamba and Sannidhanam and who created chaos.

The Sabarimala shrine, which opened for devotees on October 17 after the Supreme Court verdict, had witnessed violent protests for six days.

The police had already published the photos of 210 persons involved in the violence.
