France is considering to impose a state of emergency to prevent a civilian unrest andurged the protestors to come to the negotiating table, government spokesman Benjamin Griveaux said.
Reports said that groups of of young men with faces masked, carrying metal bars and axes were on the streets, setting ablaze a dozen vehicles and torching buildings.
Griveaux told Europe 1 radio: “we have to think about the measures that can be taken so that these incidents don’t happen again.”
Violence erupted on the streets after two weeks of nationwide protests against fuel taxes and living costs, known as the “yellow vest” movement after fluorescent jackets were kept in all vehicles in France.
Reports said that President Emmanuel Macron will hold a meeting with the prime minister and interior minister later on Sunday to discuss the riot situation. As of now the government is also perplexed with whom to hold the discuission as there was no real structure or leadership for the movement.
