India’s first engine less-train, Train 18, crossed the 180 km per hour (kmph) mark during a trial run. With the train becoming operational, Train 18 will become the fastest train in India.
There are reports that the train will be launched on December 25 from New Delhi to Varanasi. Christmas Day also happens to be the birthday of late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
According to the tentative plan, Train 18 will start from New Delhi station at 6 am, and is expected to reach Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency, at 2 pm. The return journey will start at 2.30 pm from Varanasi and reach the national capital at 10.30 pm.
Train 18 has all modern facilities with rotating seats which can be aligned in the direction of travel in executive class, modular toilets with bio-vacuum system, sliding doors in coaches, modular luggage rack with glass bottom, and continuous window glasses.
All the coaches will be provided with on board Wi-fi, infotainment and GPS based passenger information system (PIS) which will inform the passengers about the travel status.
