Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party to contest together in UP for Lok sabha elections


Arch rivals Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) ON Saturday announced they will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls together in Uttar Pradesh. The BSP and SP will be contesting 38 seats each of the 80 seats in the state. Rae Bareli and Amethi has been kept out of the alliance.

Addressing a press conference, BSP chief Mayawati said that the two seats have been left out for one or two allies. The press conference was jointly addressed by her SP counterpart Akhilesh Yadav.

Describing the alliance as a “new political revolution” taken in the interest of the nation to stop BJP from coming to power again, she said that the alliance would go far beyond the Lok Sabha elections and also fight the Assembly elections.

Mayawati and Akhilesh said that they would jointly fight the BJP and ensure that it is defeated in Uttar Pradesh which sends the largest number of 80 MPs to Lok Sabha.

Stating that seat-sharing between the two parties was decided at a meeting in Delhi on January 4, she said that distribution of seats have also been broadly worked out, whcih would be announced soon.
