Endosulfan victims end hunger strike


The endosulfan victims from Kasargode, who were on a hunger strike in front of the Kerala Secretariat for the last four days, ended their agitation after the government agreed to meet their demands.

Endosulfan victims were called for a meeting after they took out a march to cliff house, the residence of Chief Minister. In the talks, the government agreed to the demand that all the victims would be included in the list eligible for compensation and other assistance. Apart from this, medical camps would also be held in the region. The district collector has been entrusted to take steps for addressing the issues that has been raised.

The agitators said that they were withdrawing from the strike after the Chief Minister had given them the assurance that the issues raised by them would be addressed.

Meanwhile, health minister K K Shylaja was in the storm after she stated that endosulfan children are being paraded by those leading an agitation. This should not have been done. The issues related to endosulfan victims have been addressed, she said. The minister had come under attack for her statement.
Social activist Dayabai, who had come down here for participating in the hunger strike, said that the minister lacked conscience and was cold hearted.
