Thiruvananthapuram; Kerala Health Minister K K Shylaja on Monday said that a cancer control registry on the basis of population will be set up in the state as part of the Kerala Cancer Control Strategy. “ As per the present system, data is only available for a few districts,” she said this while inaugurating cancer day at the medical college here.
Stating that the registry would help in the detection and treatment of cancer, she said that Thiruvananthapuram Regional cancer Centre, Malabar Cancer centre and the Kochi Cancer centre would join together in framing the registry.
She said that detection of cancer at an early stage was as important as treatment. Shylaja said that facilities have been arranged at family health centres for early detection of cancer. She also said that the radio therapy units in the five medical colleges in the state are being developed as centers for cancer treatment.
Noting that cancer had some kind of relation to life style, the minister said the awareness of early detection and treatment should be created in the society.
